Tilt-Top Table
H28" D28.75"
This is a fine tilt top table made by Kittinger under
license from the Newport Preservation Society, Newport,
Rhode Island.
The table from which this was copied originally belonged
to Solomon Southwick, the editor of the Newport Mercury,
and was said to have been buried during the British
occupation of Newport. The original is on display at
the Newport Historical Society's headquarters.
The spiral fluted urn is proof of the Townsend-Goddard
influence. The revolving "birdcage" enables
the top to be tilted to a vertical position. |
